A violent sex offender could be placed near a home where two children live in Shawano County, because of a legal loophole. It’s happening in Birnamwood, where a small piece of land separates the family’s home from the sex offenders house. Because there is land separating the two, the state is legally able to place a sex offender there, even if it is within 1500 feet of a child’s home. The state said they have to house offenders somewhere. The children’s mother, Amanda Uttecht is terrified. She’s working with local lawmakers to redraw the property lines.
