Five more Wisconsin counties, including Waupaca County, are under quarantine orders after the emerald ash borer was discovered.
Residents in Waupaca, Marinette, Chippewa, Green Lake and Waushara counties will no longer be able to take firewood in non-quarantined counties, which is now consists of 26 of Wisconsin’s 72.
The ash borer in Waupaca County was discovered in the Town of Farmington on County Highway Q and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection encourages residents living within 15 miles of infestation to take preventative treatments for trees, depending on their age, size and number.
Signs of infestation include D-shaped holes in bark, the thinning of the canopy, new branches sprouting low on the trunk, or signs of woodpecker activity.
