Barbara Ann Habeck, age 78 of Shawano, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017 surrounded by her family at ThedaCare Medical Center-Neenah, following a one week battle with pneumonia complicated by pulmonary fibrosis.
Barbara was born on June 30, 1938 in Shawano, a daughter of the late William and Aurelia (Cotter) Zastrow. Barbara graduated from Shawano High School in 1956. On July 21, 1956 she was married David L. Habeck. They spent 60 wonderful years together, celebrating their special wedding anniversary last summer with their family. They spent their entire married life in Shawano.
In her earlier years, Barbara worked at JC Penney and later at Citizens State Bank for 11 years. She also taught Sunday school and served on various church committees. Barbara loved her family and friends, and enjoyed many get-togethers with them, playing cards, lawn games, and visiting. She also truly loved attending her granddaughter’s athletic games, and caring for her great-grandchildren. Barbara’s other favorite pastime was playing bingo. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, David; their children, Jeffrey Habeck, Sharon (Jeff) Friedrich, and Dan (Carrie) Habeck, all of Shawano; six grandchildren, Michael (Andrea) Habeck, Carrie (Andy) Cisewski, Melissa Friedrich, Nikki (Josh) Biertzer, Noah Habeck, and Gracyn Habeck; four great-grandchildren, Quentin and Elliot Habeck, and Aubree and Ryder Biertzer; her in-laws, Lee and Sandy Habeck, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Zastrow and Aurelia Dallmann; her step-father, Henry Dallmann; her brother, Carl Zastrow, her sisters, Violet Sperberg, Charlotte Habeck, and Shirley Sperberg; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Julius and Lenora Habeck; her sisters-in-law, Lois Zastrow, Esther Habeck, Shirley Habeck, and Elaine Darling; her brothers-in-law, Raymond Sperberg, Ruben Habeck, Lawrence Sperberg, Roger Habeck, Vernal Habeck, and Lloyd Darling.
Funeral services for Barbara Ann Habeck will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 11:30 AM at Stony Hill Lutheran Church, Town of Richmond. Pastor Travis Kleinschmidt will officiate. Interment will take place in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 AM until the hour of service.
