The Stockbridge Munsee Tribe has filed paperwork that could lead to a federal lawsuit.
The tribe is upset that the Ho-Chunk is expanding a small casino near Wittenberg to include a hotel and a larger gaming area. The Stockbridge contends that it’s not what the Wittenberg facility is licensed for, and if the larger casino is allowed to open, it could put a crimp into the business generated by the Stockbridge North Star Casino at Bowler.
An attorney says the Stockbridge Tribe has not decided yet whether to file suit.
The state has said the Ho Chunk project meets the terms of that tribe’s gaming compact, but the Stockbridge Munsee has said the state’s wrong, and it still plans to withhold a $923 million payment to the state if it doesn’t stop the Ho Chunk project.
