State Senator Rob Cowles says law enforcement officials have told him that current state laws are not strong enough to deal with those using the devices to steal credit card numbers.
“They don’t want to only have to catch someone in the act” said Cowles. “They want penalties for attempted use, trafficking, buying and selling and possession.”
The devices are increasingly being found hidden on gas station pumps and at A-T-Ms. The Green Bay Republican says even he has been a victim.
“I have had my credit card taken, and I am sure many others have also” said Cowles. “It is a real pain when this happens.”
Under the bill, those caught with a skimmer or trying to use one could face felony charges.
