The Stockbridge-Munsee Tribe sent a letter to Governor Scott Walker on Monday explaining that they are withholding their payment of $923,000 to the State because of frustrations with advancements for a nearby casino which was allowed by the State. The Stockbridge-Munsee operates the North Star Mohican Casino in Bowler, but recently, the state allowed the Ho-Chunk Casino in Wittenberg to expand, which is creating competition as the two casinos are only 17 miles away. A study showed that the Stockbridge-Munsee will likely lose quite a bit of revenue and the statement to Governor Walker indicated that the state is violating their gaming compact by allowing the Ho-Chunk Nation to unlawfully operate the casino on land that is not eligible.
