The race in the East/West Baseball League continued to heat up during Week 5 action Sunday, with several high-scoring contests highlighting the weekend schedule after rain washed out Friday’s matchup between Scandinavia/Wittenberg and Leopolis/Tigerton.
CAROLINE 15, TILLEDA 4
The biggest offensive outburst came in Caroline, where the Cougars rolled past the Tilleda Woodchucks 15-4 in eight innings. Jack Yeager earned the win on the mound while also contributing two hits at the plate. Caroline’s lineup stayed hot from top to bottom as Gavin Christopherson, Kade Rosenow, Caleb Christopherson, Klay Finger and Yeager all collected multiple hits. Gavin Christopherson and Finger each added doubles as the Cougars piled up the runs. Tilleda received strong offensive efforts from Jay Brei and Braylon Mielke, who each recorded three hits, but the Woodchucks could not keep pace with Caroline’s attack.
MENOMINEE 17, CLINTONVILLE 16
One of the most entertaining games of the weekend took place in Menominee, where the Indians outlasted the Clintonville A’s 17-16 in a back-and-forth slugfest. Pete O’Kimosh picked up the victory while Andy Lederer was tagged with the loss. Austin Peters led the Menominee offense by going 3-for-4 with a home run, while Mitchell Vande Walle and Quinn Gauthier each added three-hit performances. Clintonville’s offense was equally explosive. Austin Hoffman finished 3-for-5, James Mutchie reached base four times with two hits and two walks, Turner Doornink launched a three-run homer, and Brock Smejkal connected on a grand slam in the losing effort.
The Marion Meisters also put together a strong offensive showing, defeating the Shawano Lakers 13-9.
Elsewhere, Little Falls picked up a 9-0 forfeit victory over Weymont.
Friday’s scheduled contest between Scandinavia/Wittenberg and Leopolis/Tigerton was postponed because of rain and will be rescheduled for a later date.
