SHAWANO, WI – As spring cleanup season gets underway, Shawano Public Works Director Michael Mahloch is reminding residents what to expect as crews begin collecting yard waste across the city.
Mahloch says one key difference this time of year is that residents are allowed to leave yard waste loose at the curb. “We will pick up loose leaves at this time,” Mahloch said, noting that unlike other times of the year when yard waste must be placed in containers, crews will now collect loose leaves, garden debris, and similar materials during the spring collection period.
In addition to curbside pickup, residents also have the option to bring yard waste directly to the Public Works Department free of charge. Mahloch says that includes items like branches and loose leaves, giving residents added flexibility as they clean up their properties after the winter months.
However, with windy conditions common during the spring, Malik is urging residents to properly organize and secure materials placed at the curb. He recommends placing smaller items in garbage bags to prevent debris from blowing around and creating hazards or additional cleanup for crews.
Mahloch also reminds residents that not all items are eligible for free pickup. Appliances, electronics, and other bulky items require a disposal fee, and special stickers for those items can be purchased at Shawano City Hall.
City officials say following these guidelines will help ensure a smoother and more efficient spring cleanup process for both residents and Public Works crews.
