NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – With turkey hunting season now underway across the state, Wisconsin DNR officials are reminding hunters to stay prepared and follow all regulations before heading into the field.
DNR Warden Mark Schraufnagel says the season is already seeing participation from youth hunters and experienced outdoorsmen alike, making it important for everyone to understand the rules. He emphasizes that whether it’s a hunter’s first bird or their hundredth, preparation and compliance remain key to a safe and successful season.
One of the most important reminders from the DNR is proper harvest registration. “Registration is required, so make sure if you harvest a bird that you get that bird registered. I would strongly encourage you to get it done right away,” Schraufnagel said. Officials note that timely registration helps the DNR track turkey populations and manage the resource effectively.
Schraufnagel also reminds hunters that proper licensing is required before heading out. In addition to standard permits, bonus turkey tags may still be available. These can be purchased online through the Wisconsin DNR’s Go Wild system or at local license vendors, giving hunters additional opportunities to participate in the season.
As the season continues, DNR officials encourage hunters to review all regulations, prioritize safety in the field, and take advantage of opportunities to introduce younger hunters to the sport while maintaining responsible hunting practices.
