WAUPACA COUNTY, WI – The Waupaca County Office of Emergency Management issued the declaration effective April 4th, impacting areas downstream of the City of New London. Officials say the order is intended to protect property and ensure public safety as water levels remain elevated.
As part of the emergency declaration, a slow-no-wake zone is now in effect along the affected stretch of the river. Under county ordinance, boaters are required to operate at slow-no-wake speeds within 500 feet of any permanent structure during the flood emergency.
Authorities say the restriction is designed to reduce shoreline erosion and minimize damage to homes and other structures along the river.
The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol will be responsible for enforcing the order, which will remain in place until water levels recede to a non-threatening level.
