SHAWANO, WI – A celebration honoring the history and impact of the Mountain Bay Trail is set to bring the community together later this month.
Donna Hobscheid with the Friends of the Mountain Bay Trail says the event will reflect on how the trail was created and the role it continues to play across the region. “They created what’s called Rails to Trails, they turned the old Chicago Northwestern Railway in our county basically from Pulaski to Eland,” Hobscheid said.
The celebration will take place at the Shawano County Park Pavilion and is free for the public to attend, with food and activities planned throughout the evening. Organizers say the event will also recognize individuals who have played a key role in maintaining and supporting the trail over the years.
“The event is going to include some talks from Johnny Yoder and Steve Charlier, two gentlemen who were part of the beginning of the trail,” Hobscheid said. She added that special guests will include Scoutmaster Steve Nelson of Boy Scout Troop 445, whose group has worked on trail bridges, as well as Seth Taft with the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks.
The event is scheduled to run from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase state park passes during the celebration.
