NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding families that the annual youth turkey hunt is just around the corner.
The 2026 youth hunt is scheduled for April 11th and 12th, offering hunters under the age of 16 a chance to gain experience in the field ahead of the regular season. Officials say the event is designed to introduce young hunters to turkey hunting while building skills and confidence.
Participants are required to have a valid spring turkey license, wild turkey stamp, and harvest authorization before heading out. During the two-day hunt, youth hunters are limited to harvesting one male or bearded turkey and must be accompanied by a qualified adult.
The DNR also reminds hunters that all harvested turkeys must be registered by 5 p.m. the day after recovery, emphasizing the importance of proper reporting for wildlife management.
