SHAWANO COUNTY, WI – With Election Day set for Tuesday, Shawano County Clerk Raymond Rigsby says voters should expect a lighter ballot but steady turnout across the county.
Rigsby says turnout is projected to be around 40 percent for the spring election, which includes key races and local decisions. “This is a spring election, we’re expecting about 40 percent turnout across the municipalities, but it really is kind of small,” Rigsby said. He notes the ballot includes the state Supreme Court race, county board supervisors, local village and township positions, as well as school board elections and referendums in districts like Clintonville and Gillett.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., with results reported to the county and posted online later that evening. Rigsby says he and his deputy, Susie Gilbert, will spend the day visiting polling locations across multiple municipalities. “We’re going to go out and check polling sites and hit different municipalities just to see how they’re doing,” he said.
A key focus this year will also be monitoring newly implemented voting equipment to ensure everything is running smoothly on Election Day.
Rigsby adds that voters should be aware of potential write-in opportunities, especially for County Board District 5, which currently has no registered candidate. He says if no one receives votes for that seat, the county board will need to appoint someone to fill the position.
