MADISON, WI- The Bonduel Bears saw their state tournament run come to an end Thursday, falling to Cambridge 71-49 in the WIAA State Semifinals.
Bonduel battled early, trailing just 26-22 at halftime and staying within striking distance through much of the first half. The Bears even held a brief lead, but Cambridge took control after the break, using a 14-0 run in the second half to create separation and never looked back.
Turnovers proved to be a key factor in the game. Bonduel committed 18 turnovers, and Cambridge made them pay, turning those miscues into a decisive advantage on the scoreboard. That ability to capitalize helped fuel a 45-point second half for Cambridge.
The Bears were led by Cal Nottestad with 16 points, while Jett Horton added 12 and Ian Nelles chipped in 11. Bonduel showed balance offensively with four players in double figures or near it, and also held their own on the glass with 35 rebounds.
After a tough shooting first half, Bonduel found a rhythm in the second, hitting 57 percent of their shots and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. However, the turnover margin and Cambridge’s efficiency ultimately proved too much to overcome.
Cambridge shot 50 percent in the first half and continued to apply pressure throughout the second, finishing the game with a strong all-around performance on both ends of the floor.
Bonduel finishes its season with a 25-4 record, capping off an impressive run that included a trip to the state tournament and a season full of memorable moments for the Bears.
