MADISON, WI- The Seymour Thunder turned in a historic performance Thursday, rolling past St. Croix Central 67-49 in the WIAA Division 3 State Semifinals behind one of the most efficient shooting displays the state tournament has ever seen.
Seymour shot a blistering 25-for-39 from the field, an incredible 64 percent, setting a Division 3 State Tournament record for shooting percentage. The Thunder were especially dominant in the second half, connecting on 13 of 17 shots to pull away and secure their spot in the championship game.
The game was competitive early, with Seymour holding a narrow 29-25 lead at halftime. But the Thunder came out firing after the break, using an 11-point scoring run and relentless offensive execution to build a lead that grew as large as 24 points.
Balanced scoring fueled Seymour throughout the night. Kyler Marks and Isaac Feske each poured in 20 points to lead the way, combining for 15-of-20 shooting from the floor. Xavier Salzman added 11 points, including three 3-pointers, while Jordan Krause chipped in 10 points on a perfect 4-for-5 shooting performance.
Seymour’s efficiency extended beyond scoring. The Thunder dished out 15 assists on 25 made baskets, took care of the ball with just nine turnovers, and controlled the paint with a 36-20 scoring advantage inside. Defensively, they limited St. Croix Central to 50 percent shooting and just 24 second-half points.
The Thunder led for more than 32 minutes of the game, showcasing poise, discipline, and an unselfish offensive approach that overwhelmed their opponent.
With the win, Seymour improves to 28-1 on the season and advances to the WIAA Division 3 State Championship game. The Thunder will face Racine St. Catherine’s on Saturday with a gold ball on the line.
