Sheriff’s Office: Storm Creates Travel Challenges

SHAWANO COUNTY, WI – Shawano County deputies stayed busy throughout the weekend responding to the impacts of a major winter storm that made travel difficult across the area.
Sheriff George Lenzner said both law enforcement and tow crews struggled to reach stranded motorists as heavy snow and drifting conditions worsened. Because of the dangerous conditions, the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office issued a temporary tow ban to keep roads safer and prevent additional vehicles from becoming stuck.
Deep snowfall was reported across parts of northeast Wisconsin, including communities like Gresham, Gillett, and Suring, creating ongoing challenges even after the snow stopped.
Lenzner says residents should remain patient as cleanup continues, “Garbage collection may be delayed and events could be impacted in the days following the storm.”
He also praised crews with the Shawano County Highway Department for working long hours throughout the weekend to keep roads as clear and safe as possible.
