SHAWANO, WI – Jazz music will take center stage at Shawano High School as the annual Shazz Festival continues to grow and attract student musicians from across the Midwest. Shawano High School Jazz Band Director Chris Kent says this year’s festival will feature 30 groups representing 21 schools from around Wisconsin and beyond.
Kent says participating schools are traveling from across the state, including groups coming from as far away as Tomah. He also noted that one school will be traveling from Marquette, Michigan, highlighting the expanding reach of the festival.
Students at Shawano High School say they are especially excited about the special guest performers scheduled to attend the event. One student says, “Among them is Sherry Miracle, founder of the Diva Jazz Band, whose appearance is particularly meaningful for students interested in jazz.”
Students say it’s inspiring to see more women making their mark in jazz, a genre that has traditionally been male-dominated.
Organizers say the festival will bring together students, educators, and music lovers to celebrate jazz while giving young performers an opportunity to share their passion for music and learn from one another.
