NEW LONDON, WI – The City of New London is moving forward with plans to construct a new wastewater treatment facility, a project that will require relocating the community’s popular sledding hill.
City officials approved the plan during a joint meeting of the Board of Public Works, Sewer Utility Commission, and Parks and Recreation Committee. The new facility is expected to be built on property next to the city’s Public Works building.
City leaders say building the plant at the new location will help reduce costs and simplify construction compared to rebuilding at the current wastewater treatment site.
As part of the project, the existing sledding hill will need to be removed. However, officials say the city plans to develop a new sledding hill at another location during the same year the current hill is lost.
City officials say the project is necessary to meet state requirements that require communities to either upgrade or replace aging wastewater treatment facilities.
