SCHOFIELD, WI – It was a tight one all the way through at D.C. Everest High School on Thursday Night between the previously undefeated Chargers and the Mosinee Indians.
This was a rematch of Mosinee’s season opener in which Mosinee lost 63-44 to Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
As you would expect in a Sectional Semi-Final, both teams came out shooting hot. Wittenberg-Birnamwood had 4 different scorers in the 1st half compared to Mosinee’s 6.
After a quick Mosinee run and timeout by the Chargers, Witt-Birn capitalized with a quick 5-0 run of their own to take back the lead in the late stages of the first half. This would propel Wittenberg-Birnamwood to a 32-28 halftime lead.
After the break, strong shooting continued for both teams as Mosinee went on quick 4-0 with 10 minutes left in the 2nd half off a layup and a steal on the inbounds pass.
Rebounding was a sure strength for the Indians as multiple 1st and 2nd half chances were put back for Mosinee.
The Indians made their free throws in the end courtesy of Addy Heinrich who made 2 clutch ones to put the game out of reach.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s season comes to a end with an impressive 26-1 overall record. Mosinee improved to 23-4.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood was led by Rory Salvesen with 20, Melaina Granquist with 16 and Harper Rogowski with 11.
Mosinee was led by Paetyn Jirschele with 15 points, with 11 of those coming in the 2nd half, Addy Heinrich with 14 and Megan Treu with 9.
