SHAWANO COUNTY, WI – The Shawano County Highway Department has announced seasonal spring weight limits will go into effect on county trunk highways beginning Wednesday, March 11.
Highway Commissioner Grant Bystol says drivers and commercial haulers should watch closely for posted signage indicating which roads are affected by the restrictions. The limits reduce allowable loads to six tons for a single axle, ten tons for a tandem axle, and a maximum gross vehicle weight of 26 tons.
County officials say the seasonal limits are necessary during the spring thaw, when warmer temperatures and melting frost can weaken roadbeds. Restricting heavy loads during this period helps prevent structural damage to pavement and extends the overall lifespan of county highways.
Haulers and drivers are encouraged to plan routes carefully and pay attention to posted weight limit signs once the restrictions take effect.
A complete list of county highways impacted by the spring weight limits is available on the Shawano County website.
