Matthew M. “Matt” Meidam, age 58, of Shawano, passed away peacefully in his
sleep early Sunday morning, March 1, while fishing with his friends in the upper
peninsula.
Matt was born August 8, 1967, in Shawano, a son of the late Theodore and Ruth
(Beversdorf) Meidam. He attended St. James Grade School and later graduated
from Shawano High School with the Class of 1986. Following high school, he
attended tech school for several years. Matt was currently employed at Dearco
Paint and Glass in Shawano, a job he truly loved. He had an exceptional sense of
humor and made numerous friends throughout the years.
Matt was an avid hunter and fisherman. He truly enjoyed spending time with his
entire family. Matt was the master fish fryer and loved to entertain family and
friends. He had a big heart and would help anyone who requested his assistance.
Matt previously cheated death on Friday, September 13, 2024, and he became a
huge fan of the Rapala phrase “make your own luck.”
Matt is survived by his siblings, Ann (Peter) Kahler of Shawano, Mike (Kelly)
Meidam of Shawano, Jim (Linda) Meidam of Clintonville, Marjorie Anderson of
Shawano, Joseph (Cynthia) Meidam of Shawano, Barbara Gray of Shawano, and
Kathleen Meidam of Shawano; his soul mate, Shari Van Straten of Green Bay; and
the son that Matt always wanted, Ryan Goodletson of Green Bay. He is further
survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lorraine Raasch; and niece,
Holly Raasch.
A funeral service for Matthew M. Meidam will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026,
at 1:30 pm at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Thomas Goodletson will
preside. Visitation will begin at the funeral home on Friday at 10:30 am and
continue until the time of service.
In lieu of plants and flowers the family kindly requests memorials in Matthew’s
name to a charity of your choice.
