Duaine Allen Kussmann, age 80, of Oshkosh WI passed away peacefully with family by his side on February 27, 2026 due to complications from a previous heart attack.
Duaine was born on December 20, 1945 to Armin and Leverne Kussmann in Clintonville, WI and attended school in Marion, WI. A hard worker, he left school at age 15 to work on the family dairy farm and as a stocker / bagger at Johnson’s Grocery Store. After the cows were sold, Duaine started working for Hillshire Farms in New London, WI and continued for 38 years until retiring in 2005. He took pride in his work ethic and rarely missed a day despite the 30-minute drive each way. After retiring, Duaine enjoyed the quiet life, spending time at family gatherings (playing canasta), keeping close tabs on the Brewers and Packers while enjoying a hamburger (plain), and continued to stay active with the church and choir.
For most of his life, Duaine lived in Marion, WI helping his family where he could. Always generous with time and resources, Duaine made sure his sisters had their own “first cars”, worked weekends / evenings on the family farm, and even babysat for nieces and nephews. In 2006, Duaine moved to Clintonville, WI to be near to his brother Dennis where they could keep an eye on each other – literally, they could wave to each other from their front steps. Health issues starting in 2020 eventually led to Duaine moving to Oshkosh, WI in 2024 to be closer to doctors and his sister Diane.
Duaine was preceded in death by his parents Armin (Leverne) Kussmann, grandparents Otto (Marie) Kussman, grandparents Leonard (Libbie) Wegener, and brother David Kussmann.
Duaine is survived by brother Dennis (Geraldine) Kussmann of Clintonville, sisters Deborah (Steven) Komp of Menasha, Diane Simonson of Oshkosh, and Darla (Gary) Millerd of Neenah. In addition, he will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and their families.
Funeral services for Duaine will be held at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Clintonville, WI on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Visitation begins at 10:00am and will continue up to the funeral service which will start at 12:00 noon. Lunch will follow the service and interment will follow lunch starting at 2:00pm at Greenleaf Cemetery in Marion, WI.
The family wishes to thank the staff for their loving care and concern while he was at The Courtyard in Oshkosh and Parkview Health Center in Oshkosh. In addition, a special thank you goes out to the doctors and nurses at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Appleton ICU & hospice teams for their patience and guidance. They also want to thank the congregation and staff at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Clintonville for all of their visits, cards and prayers.
