NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – Two area communities are receiving a significant investment aimed at strengthening long-term economic development. The villages of Wittenberg and Gillett have each been awarded up to $50,000 through the state’s Thrive Rural Wisconsin program.
The initiative is administered by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and includes not only grant funding, but also two years of technical assistance to help smaller communities plan and implement sustainable growth strategies. State officials say the program is designed to provide rural communities with both the financial support and professional expertise needed to turn development goals into reality.
In Wittenberg, Shawano County Economic Progress, Inc. will assist local leaders in establishing a redevelopment authority and creating a comprehensive downtown redevelopment plan. The goal is to position the community for future investment and business expansion.
Meanwhile in Gillett, leaders plan to focus on expanding attainable housing opportunities while crafting a long-term vision for a more vibrant and economically active downtown district. Officials say the Thrive Rural Wisconsin program helps communities lay the groundwork for lasting economic progress by strengthening planning efforts and building local capacity.
