SHAWANO, WI – The Hawks defense came alive in both halves as Shawano defeated New London 54-41 in front of a packed house in Shawano on Saturday Night.
From the start, both teams were scoreless for the first 3 minutes of the game until a New London three from Morgan Jones got the scoring started, that was the only basket New London would get for the next few minutes as Jadyn Brown and Leah Nordin took over leading the Hawks out to a 12-3 lead.
Shawano’s defense stepped up creating turnover after turnover and scoring points on the other end, the Hawks ended up forcing 15 total turnovers throughout the entire game.
The Hawks were very patient waiting till gaps opened up in the defense for them to take their shot and it worked out holding New London under 20 points in the first half with a halftime score of 23-13.
The Bulldogs came out of the break with Morgan Jones scoring 10 2nd half points but Shawano’s physical defense proved too much for the Bulldogs in the end.
With the win, Shawano improved to 17-9 on the season. New London ends their season at 14-12.
Shawano will face Rhinelander on Thursday at a site TBD.
Leaders for New London were Morgan Jones with 16, Sarah Daly with 8 and Chesney Magolski wiith 7.
Shawano was led by Leah Nordin’s 23, Creden Weisnicht’s 9 and Jadyn Brown’s 8.
