GREEN BAY, WI – The Shawano Hawks boys team overcame a slow start at Green Bay East on Thursday Night.
The Hawks were down early on East’s Senior Night 15-5 within the first 7 minutes.
A quick timeout from the Hawks calmed the team down as Will Verkuilen and Jack Nordin got going.
A common foul and a technical foul on Josiah John of Green Bay East happened all in one play and gave the Hawks multiple free throws making 3 out of 5 and getting the ball back after that possesion.
Baskets were traded back and forth in the first half with a 3 at the buzzer from Green Bay East to end the first half making the score 38-30 in favor of Shawano.
The Hawks defense came alive in the 2nd half forcing 10 turnovers in the 2nd half.
Shawano had 6 scorers on the night as they pulled away in the 2nd half winning 73-52.
With the win, Shawano improves to 9-15 and has won 3 in a row for the first time this season and will try for their 4th in a row against Menasha in postseason action on March 3rd.
Leaders for Shawano were Will Verkuilen with 28 and Jack Nordin with 25.
Green Bay East was led by Amari Wolfe with 14 and Josiah John with 12.
