Shawano Police were kept busy Monday. Officers responded just before 3 a.m. to a traffic hazard at County Trunk B and Industrial Drive, where glare ice created by fire department activity made the roadway dangerous. Police contacted the county highway department for assistance after public works could not be reached.
Several welfare checks were conducted throughout the day, including one on South Andrews Street involving concerns about children in the home, and another on County Road B where officers located an individual with an active Shawano warrant.
Police also investigated a hit-and-run reported at East Green Bay Street and North Airport Drive. The suspect vehicle was described as a 15-passenger van, but no license plate was available.
Other calls included truancy complaints at Shawano Community High School, juvenile issues at Olga Brener School, harassment on West Swan Street, and a vehicle lockout early this morning on Engel Drive.
Clintonville Police were busy handling a mix of traffic enforcement and community safety calls. Just before 1 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop at West Madison and Bennett Streets. In the early morning hours, police completed multiple business checks along 6th Street and Bennett Street as part of routine patrol efforts.
Another traffic stop was reported shortly before 4 a.m. at North Main and West 13th Streets.
Extra patrol was logged at 6 a.m. on Anne Street and West Street. Later in the morning, officers performed a welfare check on Wilson Street, and around 12:25 p.m., assisted a citizen on 7th Street. A second welfare check was conducted on North Main Street just after 2:30 p.m.
Traffic activity continued into the evening, including calls at Highway 45 and County Highway D, South Main and East Madison Streets, and a traffic stop at 10th Street and South Clinton Avenue just before 7:30 p.m.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office responded to 36 incidents across the county. The day began just before 1 a.m. with a fire assist on County Road K. Around 4 a.m., deputies received a reckless driving report on Highway 29 near Hickory Road involving a vehicle reportedly braking erratically and speeding up. Additional reckless driving complaints were logged throughout the day along Highway 29 and Highway 45.
Road conditions kept deputies busy. Heavy drifting was reported on Highway 22 near Highway 117 early in the morning. Later, a tote box and life preservers were reported in the roadway on Highway 29, and a semi slid into the ditch while attempting to turn into a farm driveway on County Road D in the Leopolis area. Ice chunks and even a large dog running along Highway 29 were also reported as hazards.
Criminal matters included a trespassing complaint on Highway 22, a vandalism report involving damage to a leased bar in Shawano, a theft and vandalism complaint in Cecil, and a harassment complaint on West Swan Street in Shawano.
Two warrant arrests were made at the Shawano County Jail lobby, including a man who turned himself in.
Deputies also handled a domestic disturbance in Wittenberg that resulted in an arrest, an overdose call on Riverside Drive in Shawano, multiple welfare checks—including one involving a suicidal subject at a medical facility—and several disabled vehicle calls.
