BONDUEL, WI- A structure fire early this morning caused heavy damage to a Village of Bonduel residence, but all occupants were able to escape safely.
According to the Bonduel Area Fire Department, crews were dispatched at approximately 5:40 a.m. to a report of a possible structure fire on North Cecil Street. Initial reports indicated a loud popping sound followed by smoke filling the home.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that two adults and a dog had safely exited the residence. Crews entered the structure to conduct a primary search for additional occupants and to locate the source of the fire. The fire was discovered in the attic space, and firefighters immediately began suppression efforts.
Officials said the attic and its contents sustained heavy fire damage. The first floor of the home experienced extensive water damage as a result of firefighting operations.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Shawano Area Fire Department, Cecil Washington Fire Department, Navarino-Lessor Fire Department, Shawano County Sheriff’s Department, Bonduel Police Department, Shawano Ambulance Service, Bonduel Municipal Operations, and WE Energies.
At approximately noon, Bonduel firefighters were called back to the residence after reports of smoke coming from the eaves. Crews located a small concealed fire in the attic space and extinguished it quickly.
The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature. Damage estimates were not immediately available.
No injuries were reported to civilians, pets, or firefighters.
