SHAWANO COUNTY, WI – Shawano County officials are moving forward with foreclosure proceedings on five properties where owners have failed to pay back taxes and special assessments for several years. The action was approved by the county’s Public Property Committee during a recent meeting.
The parcels include three properties in Gresham, one in Mattoon, and a two-story home on South Mission Street in Wittenberg. County leaders say some of the properties may draw interest from local municipalities, which could have the opportunity to purchase them before they are offered at public auction.
Officials say the foreclosure process is part of the county’s effort to address long-standing unpaid tax obligations and return the properties to productive use. The county treasurer is now working to determine the amount owed on each parcel before officials establish asking prices.
