
Dennis “Tater” M. Schoen, age 80, of the Town of Grant, Shawano County, passed away Sunday evening, January 25, 2026, at ThedaCare Medical Center in New London.
Dennis “Tater” Michael Schoen was born on September 29, 1945, in Clintonville to Leonhart and Amanda (Grosskopf) Schoen. He attended Marion school district and graduated from Marion High School with the class of 1964. On July 23, 1966, Dennis married Yvonne Ellenbecker at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Just a month later, the couple traveled to Texas in their Volkswagen Beetle where Dennis joined the military, and served for two years. After he was honorably discharged, they moved back up to Wisconsin and lived in Appleton where Dennis worked at Les Stumpf Ford. In the early 70’s, the couple moved to the Town of Grant and Dennis started his own auto body shop in Caroline. He managed his shop for 13 years before closing up and going to work for Clintonville Motors; retiring from the dealership in 2011. Outside of work and in retirement, Dennis enjoyed playing Cribbage, Sheepshead, and other card games. He was also an avid gardener who mostly enjoyed growing flowers. Dennis was a lifelong servant of his community, and over the years he held nearly every position at Zion Lutheran Church in Caroline. He was an instrumental member of the Blashe-Peters-Tober American Legion Post #456 of Caroline , and played a key role in purchasing the Caroline Legion building. Dennis was also a member of the Shawano VFW, Shawano Forty & Eight, and was a charter member of the Caroline Lion’s Club.

Grandchildren: Taylor (Drake) Bender, Cayden Schoen, & Jorja Karst
Great-grandchildren: Sullivan and Logan Bender
Sister-in-law: Susie Schoen
Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded by his parents; his wife Yvonne in 2020; sisters Jeanette (Roger) Bielke & Joyce (Marvin) Strelow; and brothers Jerome (Bunny) & William Schoen.
Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Caroline, WI on Monday February 2, 2026 at 11 AM. Military honors will be conducted outside of the church immediately following the funeral by members of the Blashe-Peters-Tober American Legion Post #456. Interment will follow at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Caroline. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 AM until the time of the service.
