It was a close one between the Bears and the Blue Devils in non-conference action on Tuesday Night. Allison Zernicke led the Bears with 16 points including 4 three-pointers. Juliana Jacobs added 15 points for Bonduel as the Bears escaped Oconto to improve to 14-2 on the season. Oconto dropped to 9-7 overall.
Bay Port 38, Pulaski 30
Defense ruled the night Tuesday as Bay Port edged Pulaski 38-30 in a low-scoring nonconference matchup at Bay Port High School.
The Pirates built a small but steady advantage early, taking a 22-17 lead into halftime behind strong interior defense and rebounding. Both teams struggled to find consistent offense, but Bay Port maintained control after the break, outscoring Pulaski 16-13 in the second half to secure the win.
Junior Olivia Williams and sophomore Kailynn Thompson led the Pirates with 11 points apiece. Williams went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, while Thompson added a double-double with 12 rebounds and four assists. Senior Melia Lemorande chipped in six points and seven rebounds as Bay Port controlled the glass.
Pulaski fought to stay close throughout, holding Bay Port to just 31 percent shooting from the field, but the Red Raiders were unable to generate enough offense to mount a late comeback.
With the victory, Bay Port improved to 13-4 on the season and extended its recent run of strong play, while Pulaski dropped to 7-10.
