SHAWANO, WI – The Shawano County Humane Society is closing out 2025 on a high note, celebrating a year defined by new partnerships, expanded programs, and record-breaking adoption numbers.
Board member and volunteer Kris Tetting says one of the biggest strengths of the past year has been the collaboration with Clintonville Hometown Veterinary Services, noting that the shelter works closely with UW–Madison veterinarians to ensure they follow the best animal care practices. Tetting also highlighted the success of the Second Chance Paws Program, a partnership between the Humane Society and the Sanger B. Powers Correctional Center, which allows selected dogs to receive individualized care, behavioral feedback, and basic training from inmates.
Tetting says this program has played a key role in boosting adoptions by helping staff better understand each dog’s needs while giving animals valuable time outside the shelter environment. Thanks to these expanded efforts and strong community support, the Humane Society surpassed its adoption goal and found homes for more than 915 animals in 2025, marking one of its most successful years yet.
