SHAWANO, WI – Shawano County Treasurer Deb Wallace will retire on December 19, stepping down three years before the end of her current term and concluding more than 16 years of service to the county.
Wallace announced her decision in a letter to county officials, describing the role as a meaningful and rewarding way to close out her career. Interim Administrative Coordinator Julie Hasser praised Wallace’s long-standing commitment to residents and her steady leadership within the treasurer’s office.
Her departure comes at a time of notable turnover in county leadership, with several key retirements and resignations occurring in the past year.
Under a recently adopted policy for filling vacancies in elected positions, the county’s executive committee will lead the hiring process to select Wallace’s successor. The final appointment will be subject to approval by the Shawano County Board.
Wallace’s retirement marks the end of a significant chapter in county government as Shawano prepares for its next treasurer and continued transitions across departments.
