Gillett Boys Look to Stay Competitive in Post-DeBush Era
The Gillett High School Boys Basketball Preview Spotlight is presented by Bay Bank with locations in Keshena and Green Bay.
The Gillett boys enter the new season coming off a 13-12 finish, but the big storyline is replacing Wisconsin Player of the Year Jesse DeBauch, who graduated after averaging nearly 30 points per game.
The Tigers lost roughly 43 points per night and their top rebounders, creating major opportunities for new contributors. Players like Jed Herzog, Brayden Wendorff, and Clayton Borremans are expected to anchor Gillett’s new identity with physical play, defense, and depth.
Even without DeBush, Gillett still has enough size, athleticism, and culture to remain competitive. If the juniors take a step forward and the underclassmen settle into varsity roles, the Tigers could stay around .500 — or even surprise in the M&O.
Life after DeBush means toughness, rebounding, and buy-in, all things head coach Russ Young says will define Gillett’s path to another winning season.
