SHAWANO, WI – The Mielke family, long known for its historic impact on the Shawano community, is renewing its presence in a significant way. Shawano Parks and Recreation Director Matt Hendricks says the family, referred to internally as Generation 1, has set aside a substantial pool of funds specifically designed to support projects and organizations in both Shawano and Appleton.
That renewed commitment became clear with the announcement of this year’s Mielke Family Foundation Awards, which will deliver meaningful financial support to high-impact community programs. Hendricks says the annual funds coming back into Shawano total roughly $50,000, calling it a major investment from a private philanthropic source and an exciting step forward for local initiatives.
This year’s grant recipients include Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Wisconsin, the Boys and Girls Club of the Bay and Lakes Region, Safe Haven, and Shawano Adventure Sports, a branch of Shawano Pathways focused on outdoor recreation and healthy lifestyles. Each organization will use the funding to enhance youth programming, expand services, and strengthen community engagement.
