TOWN OF BELLE PLAINE, WI – A Seymour man is being held in the Shawano County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond after being charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child under 13 and exposing himself.
Prosecutors say 63-year-old Lawrence J. Fields is accused of assaulting a 6-year-old girl around Labor Day while babysitting at a home in the Town of Belle Plaine. According to the criminal complaint, the child later told investigators that Fields touched her inappropriately, exposed himself, and told her not to tell anyone.
Fields was arrested in Outagamie County before being transferred to Shawano County custody. He made his initial court appearance last week, and a status conference is scheduled for Oct. 7.
If convicted, Fields faces significant prison time. The case remains under investigation.
