WEYAUWEGA, WI – The Green Bay Packers have recognized Weyauwega-Fremont High School’s Mike Hansen as this week’s Packers High School Coach of the Week.
Hansen has stepped into the interim head coaching role this season while Head Coach Colton Zimmerman is deployed overseas with the United States National Guard. Guiding the Warhawks through this transition, Hansen has led the team to a 3-1 record in the competitive CWC-Large Conference. His years of service as an assistant coach have helped provide stability and a sense of continuity for players during Zimmerman’s absence.
In addition to his coaching duties, Hansen has organized this year’s Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks Salute to Service game, which took place Friday, Sept. 19. The annual tradition, started by Zimmerman, honors all branches of the U.S. military. This year’s event carried special meaning as the team paid tribute to Zimmerman.
A 1996 graduate of Weyauwega-Fremont, Hansen played tight end and linebacker under Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Famer Tom Chase before continuing his football career at Ripon College under Hall of Famer Ron Ernst. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Nekoosa High School before returning to Weyauwega-Fremont, where he has been on the coaching staff ever since.
