Northeast Wisconsin – As Wisconsin’s bow hunting season gets underway, some hunters are waiting for better conditions before heading into the woods.
Wisconsin DNR Conservation Warden Clark Delzer says the recent stretch of warm weather has kept many hunters at home. “If you’re a hunter, you understand that this is not ideal hunting temperatures,” Delzer explained. “You might be comfortable sitting in your tree stand in this type of weather, but in terms of deer movement and processing your game, this is not ideal.”
Delzer says cooler weather expected in October should lead to more deer movement and a bigger turnout of hunters, improving conditions for success in the field.
In the meantime, he’s reminding hunters to make tree stand safety a top priority. A safety harness should be worn both while climbing and while sitting in the stand. Delzer says following these precautions can prevent serious injuries and help ensure a safe, successful hunting season for everyone.
