NEW LONDON, WI – The New London Common Council has voted to split the city’s building inspector position into two separate jobs, creating a new role aimed at improving services and enforcement.
Along with updating the job description for the building inspector, council members approved the creation of a community development director position. City Administrator Chad Hoerth says the change is needed to keep pace with rising permit requests and to strengthen code enforcement across the city.
Half of the cost for the new role is already covered in the 2025 budget through increased permit revenue, with the remaining portion expected to be included in the 2026 budget.
The council unanimously approved the measure during its August 19 meeting.
