SHAWANO, WI – As suicide and depression continue to affect families and communities, a local Shawano group is working to bring hope and awareness. ROADS, Reaching Out About Depression and Suicide, is hosting a remembrance event this Wednesday to shine a light on the issue.
Event advocate Jamie Lee says the gathering will feature guest speaker Amber Beachy, owner of the popular Boho Bell Boutique. Beachy, a new mental health advocate in Shawano, will share her personal story of struggling with depression and her journey toward seeking help.
Lee emphasized that support is available for anyone in need. “There are so many different resources right here in Shawano County,” she said. “The easiest way is to simply call 988. That’s a new nationwide program without stigma, without pressure and someone will come to help.”
The remembrance event will take place Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Shawano Civic Center. Organizers say the evening will include personal stories, reflection, and resources for those affected by mental health challenges.
