SHAWANO, WI – With students back in class, Shawano County is seeing heavier morning traffic, and law enforcement is reminding drivers to put safety first.
Sheriff George Lenzner says motorists should allow extra time for their commute and be especially alert around school buses. He pointed to congestion near Theda Care on County Highway B as one area where delays are common.
Lenzner emphasized that when a bus’s stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing, vehicles in both directions must come to a complete stop. Extra officers are patrolling school routes, but enforcement doesn’t stop there. Bus drivers can record license plate numbers of drivers who illegally pass, and those offenders will still receive a citation in the mail.
