STEVENS POINT, WI – The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) has announced a three-year agreement to move the State Team Wrestling Tournament to the La Crosse Center beginning in March 2026.
The move comes as the tournament expands to include more qualifying teams in Divisions 2 and 3 and prepares to launch the first-ever State Girls Team Tournament in 2027. WIAA Executive Director Stephanie Hauser said the UW Field House, which has hosted the event since 2005, no longer has the floor space to accommodate the additional mats required under the new format. The Individual State Championships will remain at Madison’s Kohl Center.
Built in 1980, the La Crosse Center offers 21,000 square feet of competition space, seating for more than 4,500, and room for up to 10 mats. The venue has a strong wrestling history, hosting the Bi-State Classic since 1982 and the first WIAA Girls Individual Tournament in 2022.
The newly branded “Meet on the Mississippi” is set for March 6–7, 2026 in La Crosse, while the State Individual Tournament remains scheduled for Feb. 26–28, 2026 in Madison.
