WAUSAU, WI- The Pulaski girls tennis team turned in an impressive stretch of play in Wausau, highlighted by a 7-0 sweep over Shawano and several other key victories earlier this week.
PULASKI 7, SHAWANO 0
Against Shawano, Pulaski didn’t drop a set. Ruth Krause and Maya Schneider both notched 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, while Emory Groteluschen battled to a super-tiebreaker victory at No. 2. In doubles, the duos of Linde Lemerond/Anna Krause, Ayla Groteluschen/Gretchen Rottier, and Aubrey Cole/Riley Hartman each cruised to straight-set wins.
PULASKI 7, WAUSAU EAST 0
The Red Raiders carried that momentum into a 7-0 shutout of Wausau East, with Krause, Groteluschen, Dornfeld, and Cole all winning in singles play. Pulaski also picked up a 4-3 win over D.C. Everest and edged Eau Claire North 4-3, where Krause and the doubles teams of Lemerond/Groteluschen and Rottier/Dornfeld secured the deciding points.
WAUSAU WEST 4, PULASKI 3
STEVENTS POINT 6, PULASKI 1
Pulaski faced tougher challenges late in the weekend, falling 4-3 to Wausau West despite doubles wins from Lemerond/Groteluschen and Schneider/Rottier, and dropping a 6-1 match to Stevens Point, where Krause delivered the lone victory at No. 1 singles.
The Shawano girls tennis team ran into a challenging stretch of matches in Wausau, starting with the loss to Pulaski. The Hawks’ closest battle came at No. 2 singles, where Jaelyn Hietpas forced a third-set tiebreaker before falling to Emory Groteluschen 6-3, 4-6, 10-4.
Shawano also dropped a 5-2 match to Rhinelander, but earned some bright spots with singles wins from Ireland Setterman and Chloe Gilling. Despite the final scores, the Hawks showed grit, with several matches decided in extended sets and tiebreakers.
