The Gresham-Bowler Cats boys soccer team enters the 2025 season looking to turn the page on recent struggles. After going 1-17-1 last year and earning just three wins over the past five seasons, the program is hoping a new voice on the sidelines can spark a turnaround. That voice belongs to new head coach Jacob Fagersten, who says his first priority is building a foundation of soccer knowledge. “It’s about teaching the kids tactics so that they understand why being in the right position is important,” Fagersten said.
Fagersten brings experience coaching a variety of age groups, including time at the college level, and is committed to helping players grow both on and off the field. “I’m looking forward to helping these kids learn about the game of soccer, but also about life lessons,” he said. His goal is to show his players that he cares about them as individuals while preparing them for success beyond their high school careers.
The Cats will open the season with two road tests, first at Green Bay NEW Lutheran, followed by a trip to Northland Lutheran. While the program is in rebuild mode, Fagersten believes that with a focus on fundamentals, tactics, and team culture, Gresham-Bowler can start moving in the right direction.
