The New London Bulldogs are looking to turn the page after a 2-7 finish last season, and new head coach Bennett Hansen is ready to get the Dogs barking again, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Hansen says the Bulldogs have a solid foundation up front with size, strength, and valuable experience in the trenches. “We’ve got some real size and some guys that have put in quality work this summer and winter,” Hansen said. “If we hit the right holes and use our ability to get to the second level, we can make plays.”
The Bulldogs’ offensive potential extends beyond just the varsity roster. Hansen points to explosive skill players both on the current squad and coming up from JV1 and JV2, giving the team more speed, size, and versatility. With the ability to stretch the field through the air and a strong run game to keep defenses honest, New London aims to be more dynamic and balanced in 2025.
Several players are expected to play key roles this season. Reid Oberstadt, a first-team all-conference defensive end last year, moves to the offensive line and will play a critical role in protecting the quarterback and opening lanes in the run game. Preston Krueger, a Greco-Roman All-American wrestler, brings elite athleticism and toughness to left tackle. Logan Ten Haken, a first-team all-conference running back, returns as an explosive two-way threat in the backfield and in the secondary. Brett Marquardt, another all-conference selection, is a lockdown corner who can shut down top receivers, while Howie Roloff adds depth and skill at running back.
New London finished sixth in the Bay Conference in 2024, but the road ahead won’t be easy. The Bulldogs open the season with a challenging stretch against conference powerhouses Freedom, Little Chute, and Winneconne. Hansen knows the early tests will be tough but sees them as an opportunity to prove the Bulldogs are ready to take a step forward.
With a new leader at the helm, a retooled offensive line, and a core of proven playmakers, New London has the pieces to be more competitive in 2025, and maybe surprise some of the Bay Conference’s best.
