The Manawa Wolves are entering the 2025 season with one goal in mind, get back into the playoff race. Head coach Brad Johnson says the focus is on giving themselves a chance every week to go 1-0, stacking wins, and hopefully earning a spot in “that second season” come playoff time.
Last year’s Wolves were a very young team, and Johnson emphasizes that growth through the high school years is crucial to success. The encouraging part? This year’s core group of sophomores and juniors has not only met offseason expectations but exceeded them. “We’ve seen it before where kids don’t live up to what’s asked in the offseason,” Johnson said. “This group really has.”
The work started as soon as last season ended, with players attacking the weight room and committing to an offseason program designed to build strength, stamina, and mental toughness. Johnson says the team’s energy and discipline have stood out, even on those grueling 93-degree practice days. His message is simple: you can’t win tomorrow, but you can win today, so take care of business now.
In 2024, Manawa finished 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the Northwoods Conference. The Wolves closed the year with a hard-fought 14-8 win over North Fond du Lac, giving them a taste of victory they hope to build on. This season kicks off at home on Thursday, August 21 against Pacelli, where the Wolves will look to start strong and set the tone for a playoff push.
