BEAR CREEK, WI – Farming has long been a cornerstone of Wisconsin’s economy and culture, but industry leaders say the future of agriculture faces both challenges and opportunities. Brian Preder, District Seven Director of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau, says while farming remains a core foundation for the state, issues like fluctuating prices, industry consolidation, and uncertainty about the next generation of farmers are pressing concerns.
Preder believes engaging and preparing young people is critical to protecting that agricultural legacy. “There are people out there who want to take over,” he said. “I hear members have the next generation coming in. They want to come in, but they don’t know how to. So that succession planning piece is so important.”
To help address the need, the Wisconsin Farm Bureau has partnered with Rural Mutual Insurance to host a series of succession planning workshops. These sessions aim to spark interest in farming and equip aspiring producers with the tools and knowledge to successfully take over operations, not just in Waupaca County, but across the state.
