SHAWANO, WI – A dangerous social media trend known as the “door-kicking challenge” has made its way to Shawano County, prompting a strong warning from local law enforcement.
The viral challenge, popularized on TikTok, involves teens or young adults kicking front doors of homes, often in the middle of the night, to startle residents while filming the act for online attention. Shawano Police say several incidents have already occurred in the city.
“Juveniles or young adults are running up to random people’s homes and kicking the doors a couple times, often around 3 a.m., causing a disturbance,” said Lt. Dan Conradt of the Shawano Police Department. “They’re waking or startling the people inside, and it’s creating a real public safety concern.”
Lt. Conradt urged the community to help put a stop to the trend by staying alert and reporting any suspicious behavior immediately.
“We rely heavily on the community,” Conradt said. “If you see this type of thing happening or it happens to you, call right away.”
Police are also encouraging residents to make use of home security systems, which have already helped investigators identify individuals involved in some of the local incidents.
