SHAWANO, WI- Shawano law enforcement recently held their annual Take A Kid Fishing Day. The Cops and Bobbers program continues to be a strong program in Shawano. Dozens of kids recently got the opportunity to fish with law enforcement.
“It’s another way to build one-on-one relationships with kids in Shawano and Menominee Counties,” said Officer Brandy Hoffman of the Shawano Police Department. “It is something different to get kids involved and give them opportunities that they might not 0therwise have.”
Hoffman said they had about 26 kids participate, and each officer got to fish with one or two kids.
“It’s all about the experience and it’s just catch and release.”
Hoffman added that it’s a fun experience for the kids and for some, their first experience fishing. “We had a kid catch a bullhead catfish so that was fun to see.”
The event was possible through a grant. That money allowed for access to fishing poles and life jackets for the kids to use. Another grant allowed for food for the kids on the day of the event.
