BEAR CREEK, WI – The smell of sauerkraut and the sounds of summer celebration are set to return to Bear Creek as St. Mary’s gears up for its 61st annual Sauerkraut Festival this weekend, August 2nd and 3rd.
A longtime favorite for both the parish and the wider Bear Creek community, the festival has become more than just a weekend of food and fun, it’s a deeply rooted tradition that reflects the spirit of the town.
“This is one of our favorite times of the year, not only for our St. Mary’s parish, but the entire Bear Creek community,” said Ali, a parishioner at St. Mary’s. “We are the Sauerkraut Capital of the World.”
Festivalgoers can look forward to hearty sauerkraut dinners, homemade pies, a lively Sunday parade, and plenty of games and family activities on the parish grounds.
Behind the scenes, months of planning and preparation go into making the event a success.
“We are so blessed and grateful to have a committee of volunteers who step up to take care of different areas,” Ali said. “We have a core committee of 16 people, and then they gather their volunteers to help them, hundreds of them.”
The St. Mary’s Sauerkraut Festival continues to bring generations together through community spirit, volunteerism, and, of course, plenty of kraut.
