SHAWANO COUNTY, WI- Michael Thorson, wanted in connection with a string of burglaries and vehicle thefts in Shawano and Marathon counties, is now in custody after voluntarily turning himself in at the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday.
The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the public for their role in helping bring Thorson in. “Your efforts in sharing our previous posts and spreading the word played a significant role in putting pressure on Thorson and ultimately leading to his decision to turn himself in,” the department said in a statement.
Authorities also used the opportunity to emphasize the importance of accurate and timely witness descriptions. While earlier reports described Thorson as clean-shaven with a short haircut, he was ultimately found with longer hair and facial hair. Officials are urging anyone who provides tips in future cases to offer detailed information as close to the time of the sighting as possible.
The Sheriff’s Office says it will now begin working with neighboring jurisdictions to interview Thorson and investigate his recent activities over the past few weeks.
